Ballasts

A device used with an electric-discharge lamp to obtain the necessary circuit conditions (voltage, current and waveform) for starting and operating all fluorescent and high intensity discharge (HID) light sources require a ballast for proper operation. Lighting ballast are either electromagnetic and electronic and can be used in a wide variety of lighting situations. Electromagnetic ballasts can limit the flow of the current of electricity, but they do not alter the frequency of the power. Electronic ballasts produce light more efficiently than magnetic ballasts. Electronic ballasts are up to 25% more efficient than magnetic ballasts. Another advantage of electronic ballasts is that they eliminate visible flicker and audible noise that is common among electromagnetic ballasts.

Fluorescent Ballasts - Electronic
High-efficiency, high frequency electronic ballasts offer superior lighting performance and energy savings making their use cost-effective. A variety of lamp ignition methods can provide further energy efficiency and/or lamp life improvement. High frequency lamp operation produces light more efficiently while eliminating visible flicker and audible noise.

Fluorescent Ballasts - Magnetic
Standard electromagnetic core-and-coil-constructed magnetic ballasts continue to provide reliable service and economy across a wide variety of lighting system applications. Available for a large percentage of fluorescent lamp types sold today. These ballasts are suitable for a range of common applications such as general warehouses and parking garages, as well as other applications requiring standard fluorescent lamps.

HID Ballasts - Magnetic

Magnetic HID ballasts are used for metal halide and high and low pressure sodium lamps. Theseballast are used for a broad range of industrial, commercial, and outdoor applications.
